joanna laajisto's airisto series celebrates old scandinavian culture

composed as a collection of pure and modest designs, joanna laajisto creates the ‘airisto’ furniture series for made by choice. the pieces were originally designed for the namesake bed and breakfast, located in the turku archipelago, finland, in order to match the villa airisto’s interiors – also designed by studio joanna laajisto – that celebrate the old scandinavian villa culture and the way in which the upper class used to spend their summers. after further development, the furniture range is now set to debut at the 2018 stockholm design week, which runs in parallel with the stockholm furniture fair.

a good product has to fit in different environments from the modern and minimalist to rich and classical,‘ explains joanna laajisto. as multi-functional furnishings, the made by choice ‘airisto’ series can be used as a side table, stool and a bench. highlighting this philosophy of flexibility further, the pieces are available in light wood of natural ash accents and a stained black color choice. both options, as well as its simple design language, emphasizes the asymmetric sculpture of the foot structures.

after their launch at the 2018 stockholm design week, the ‘airisto’ series will be expanded with new products. as a scandinavian design company specializing in wood furniture, the made by choice collection has and will be developed and manufactured in their own factory in finland.
