catch the ‘Magmatic Parallelism’ exhibition during mdw2022

Mexico-based Studio davidpompa presents ‘Magmatic Parallelism’, a unique installation featuring deconstructed light sculptures set against a sky-blue backdrop. The exhibition space is part of the ALCOVA site on Via Simone, which will be open to visitors from June 5-12 during Milan Design Week 2022

‘Embracing the industrial blue tiles of the space, the installation reinforces the site-specific tone by creating a backdrop where blueness takes over the floor and narrow pedestals, contrasting with the dark, floating objects,’ elaborates the studio.

deconstructed sculptures creating a ‘volcanic landscape’

The ‘Magmatic Parallelism’ exhibition centers mainly around light sculptures composed of volcanic rocks aligned onto metal sheets. The result is a scenography of vertically and horizontally elongated pieces suspended against the monochromatic space, creating a ‘volcanic landscape of hanging rocks’. The suspended pieces come either in brass or matte black finishing.

Studio davidpompa (see more here) also used different pedestals to exhibit a series of atypical stone objects. Each display island is lined up parallelly, triggering new perspectives at every corner of the space. Overall, ‘visitors are given access to the phenomenon of lava solidification and production process of each piece, leaving them free to visualize the connection between what they sense and the object’s aesthetics,’ concludes the team.
