highlighting the timeless bond of stone and fire

the ‘abra candelabra’ collection highlights the timeless bond that ties the two elements of stone and fire. ‘a sparkle created by clashing two stones with each other has been igniting fire over centuries. at the same time stones are used to safely border campfires.’ the designers share. the candleholder pieces can bring the warmth of the stone and the intimate flame, to any interior environment.

in the series, the classical shapes of candleholders are brought to light by extracting them from the core of a stone. set in a 21st-century interpretation, they connect a timeless design with a primitive appearance and contemporary-driven technology.

studio DO’s fascination with stone

the ‘abra candelabra’ collection of is studio DO’s latest project exhibited at their atelier in antwerp, where one can also find a selection from vessels (flower vases). the ‘vessel’ objects further showcase the studio’s wide fascination with stone. driven by their affection for stone cutting, the designers research the material and cultural role of (gem)stones within the realm of functional objects. using basic interventions, shapes and aesthetics, they generate elementary actions to give a rock a (traditional) function. in this way, rocks and gemstones are turned into vessels of all kinds for the interior environment.
