studio DuHO: social drop lamp

‘drop series’ by olivia decaris and hina thibaud for studio DuHO image © studio DuHO

designers olivia decaris and hina thibaud, founders of french design studio DuHO, created ‘social drop’, a series that is both a cocoon-like environment and a lamp. whether dining, working or sleeping, the lamp gives users the choice to release the fabric panel, putting another layer between them and the outside. although this changes the visual experience of the user, the sound is also affected, giving the sense of private, internal space. used in a restaurant or office, the capsule can change the function, as well as the architectural experience of the user.

  • Would be really interesting to see these in action in a cafe or bar, with how it affects the sound and mode of the room. I think they are really cool. Reminds me of being under the sheets as a child with a friend reading books or hiding.

    Jabradley says:
  • i wonder how hot it gets inside there with the people and the bulb

    jrlemaster says:
  • or how stuffy it gets after a while. cool idea tho! i would love to see the lamp shade with different designs.
