‘bench mould furniture – pivot / rail’ stool

‘bench mould furniture – pivot / rail’ is a continuation of UK-based studio glithero‘s ‘running mould bench‘, in which they presented a site-specific furniture installation based on the artisan craft of cornice making.

this new body of work consists of a bench / console and stool. on a pivot, situated at the centre of a round table, a wooden running mould with a sharp zinc edge is used to cut a profile through wet plaster. this is repeated several times, building up layer by layer. the end result is a smooth, cake-like form, which when dry, leaves a hard plaster surface. these functional furniture pieces echo familiar traditional crafts, such as those of ceiling roses or throwing ceramics.
