the ‘job cabinet’ is the first product for ‘job office’, a new collection designed by the antwerp-based studio job (nynke tynagel and job smeets) for dutch furniture company lensvelt. the storage unit features an over-sized polished bronze key with the mechanism of the lock, transforming the metal powder coated furniture piece into something that exhibits the unmistakable aesthetic of studio job. each has four shelves that measure the half depth of the cabinet which can be arranged individually or coupled as needed. overall, ‘job cabinet’ measures L70 x D50 x H180 cm with shelves L65 x D21cm in size.

for the ‘just solutions’ event at milan design week 2011, the cabinets feature keys that have been signed and numbered by studio job.

studio job on their collaboration with lensvelt: ‘we developed a unique home and office product for lensvelt, a household name in dutch office furniture, which has + been in business since 1962.(…) the office market is looking more and more like home… lensvelt is a revolutionary, independent company with a raving loony of a director who knows no limits. our design for them is an archetypal office cabinet with an enormous polished bronze key that fits into an ingenious giant lock: the perfect symbiosis between industrial mass production and the personal object. the cabinet is available in no fewer than 13 colours, from the standard ral 7035 to a duo of pinkish-white and sunshine yellow. who says mass production can’t be flexible?‘
