nestled away from the bustling touristy areas, studio taan has completed the interior design for kasu vana, a group of luxury holiday villas located in the untouched heritage village of assagao, in north goa, india. the use of the word ‘vana’, which is sanskrit for ‘forest’, accurately describes the surroundings: 2800 sqm of lush flora and quiet air.

the interior design by studio taan was carried out in order to create an ambiance that resonates luxury living in a vacation home, in a style that is modern, casual, relaxed and plush at the same time. the architecture is designed and planned by sameep padora and associates, with the five villas seamlessly tucked into the dense green cover of forested land, on cascading levels that open up views to the picturesque landscape.

laterite clad walls act as a backdrop to the monochromatic living area color palette

the material palette consists of warm and neutral tones, ensuring that the interior does not dominate the exterior but blends into the surreal landscape. locally sourced laterite has been used to clad the exterior and highlight the central living area. additionally, the floor-to-ceiling glass expanse stretches in both axes, bringing new meaning to the term ‘living alfresco’. interior surfaces finished in lime plaster and kota stone add a rich yet subtle texture that combines the outdoors with the indoors effortlessly.

the lime plastered walls along the connecting bridge between the bedrooms, finished in differing shades mimic the undulations of the site’s natural topography. hand painted brass strokes accentuate the profile and adds finesse. whereas, the kota stone, another natural material, has been used to pave the floors in the common areas. the same stone flooring in highly polished finish, has been cut and laid in a herringbone style in the bedrooms. interior furniture has been curated to complement the lush natural surroundings of assagao, while providing residents with a luxurious atmosphere to rest and relax in.
