‘spark of light’, an interactive light installation created by super nature design

the steel and LED sculptures of ‘spark of light’, created by shanghai-based design collective super nature, function as not only architectural elements illuminating the space but also the sites of personal light shows, responding to the presence of viewers below.

the installation comprises four handcrafted steel orbs of varying sizes, each containing moving LEDs and casting a blue halo of light. when a visitor steps below one of the sculptures, an ultrasonic sensor registers her presence, initiating an animated display sequence of the LEDs.

in the largest piece, measuring 1.6 meters in diameter, a projector beams the light through an arrangement of holes drilled into the orb’s shell, casting moving circles of light onto the floor beneath.
