american design magazine surface has announced its second annual surface travel awards, an initiative that pays homage to the thoughtfully conceived spaces and products that lie at the intersection of travel and design. celebrating creatives from a range of disciplines who are influencing the way we experience the world, the program seeks to stimulate a conversation around the crucial role design plays in the betterment of human life. last year’s winners include the city of miami as best destination, herzog & de meuron’s ‘elbphilharmonie’ for cultural institution, and snapchat spectacles as top travel gadget.

 

deadline for submissions for the 2018 edition is MARCH 15! projects can encompass an array of categories, including cities, cultural institutions, cruise ships, headphones, hotels, installations, luggage, resorts, restaurants, retail spaces, spas, sustainability, transportation, travel uniforms, and more (see the full list here). an esteemed panel of jurors made up of architects, designers, artists, chefs, and others will present the winning finalists at a gala in new york in july 2018.
