created by TAIT design co., the ‘precision mobile’ is a modular kinetic sculpture designed for high ceilings made of solid brass and stainless steel. when creating the piece, the designers decided to do a mobile to add movement to living and working spaces which they thought lacked a lot of. during the process they faced challenges associated with balance that they solved by finding equilibrium through the use of different end shapes.

due to the design architecture of the mobile, it can strike many poses and is in constant but subtle flux
in order to create a mobile that could be expandable and interchangeable, a modular system was envisioned. TAIT design co. says, ‘we thought this was not only an interesting design innovation, but also made a lot of sense for the future as we come up with new designs. using this system you can quickly make it larger or smaller by stringing sets together, or even change out the color or shape of the tips – it’s a lot of fun to play with the platform and come up with new designs. we are so excited about the future with this consideration.’

the packaging was designed first taking into consideration that it needed to keep safe the component while being shipped and that it should also serve as a place to store the mobile. as for the graphic design and technical drawings on the packaging, they were also created by the team and hand screen printed.

arrowhead wings are made of precision cut and bent steel, silver-soldered, and finished with a matte powder coat

hanging wires drop through the formed arm ends creating 360° articulation

55″ custom packaging tube wrapped in a hand-pulled screen print

to reveal the arrowhead wing tips you just need to pull off the main paper zipper

from there, you pull this entire assembly out of the tube

inside this assembly, there is a smaller tube with another paper zipper
