DA bureau merges french and Japanese cultures for cafe design

DA bureau creative studio designs ‘Tamago Kissaten’ coffee and pastry shop in Kaliningrad, Russia, specializing in French and Japanese desserts. Combining two different gastronomic cultures through Asian flavors, the space draws from the architectural aesthetic and visual identity of Japan. The project applies the country’s flag colors, white and red throughout, as well as the gradient tones between the two, illustrating the laid down metaphor of the scarlet sun rising over the land and painting the sky with purple rays. Minimal wooden furniture and curved pipe light installations adorn the interior, while ceramic chipped tiles decorate the floor surface.

interior design puts up visual references to Japanese landscape

The Japanese visual identity is embodied in the interior through large and small details. All the elements in the space are carefully selected to resemble the country’s natural landscape. The cast round table symbolizes the sun, whereas the curved lamps are a reference to the outline of the Japanese mountains. The gradient-treated walls evoke the sky at sunrise, combined with the chipped tiles of the flooring drawing from typical traditional roofs. The realization of the original idea keeps up with the spirit of the time, trends, and Japanese minimalism. ‘The word Tamago means ‘egg‘ in Japanese and it is an essential ingredient in almost every dessert’, shares the design team referring to the name of the project.
