A handcrafted collectible chess set by Taras Yoom, the creator of Yoomoota, Another Kingdom: Light Stage marks a symbolic new stage in life — a truce between two kingdoms. The limited edition collection comprises 21 handcrafted chess sets realized by 3D printing from photopolymer plastic, molding, sculpting, polymer casting, and acrylic paint detailing. Primarily crafting the work in light pastel and blue hues, and a fusion of acrylic, metal, plastic, silicone, and wood, the Bangkok-based artist sought to capture the moment when two kingdoms exchange knowledge and goods. Each set additionally carries a digital secret in the form of an NFC chip. A digital certificate, this chip validates, authenticates, and records the ownership and provenance of the artwork.

The Another Kingdom: Light Stage chess sets become a tangible connection to the Yoomoota universe legend, specifically the planet Us2BeBetter. According to Taras Yoom’s narrative, inhabitants of this planet are destined to embark on a new story avoiding any destruction. ‘It’s a chance to return to origins, avoiding conflicts and the destruction of neighboring kingdoms,’ notes the artist. As the chess game unfolds on the board, players (or residents) are presented with the opportunity to rewrite history. The conceptual landscape of the game features chess pieces rising on two mountains, with a coveted artifact hidden at the board’s core. Resembling an old pocket watch, it possesses the unique power to temporarily revert the past.

Taras Yoom describes Another Kingdom: Light Stage as the beginning of a new era in the development of the kingdom on one of the Yoomoota planets. The chess set personifies the festive ambiance of an endless fair, offering dual victories — physical, in adherence to classical chess rules, and symbolic, denoting the heroic discovery of a hidden treasure at the center of the board.
