teno is a bowl-shaped bluetooth speaker that cracks open to reveal soft light
designed by lumio, teno is inspired by sounds of nature and kintsugi - the japanese art of piecing broken parts together.
following the success of its pop-up book lamp, lumio is back with a bluetooth speaker inspired by sounds of nature and kintsugi – the japanese art of piecing broken pottery together. shaped like a bowl, ‘teno’ comes alive with a simple touch, when a crack down the middle of the object gently opens to reveal soft, warm light and high-quality sound.

when designing teno, max gunawan of lumio wanted to move away from the typical ‘techy’ aesthetic of bluetooth speakers. he instead strived to create a product with an entirely different look and feel, meaning you don’t need to hide it in the corner. the surface of teno is made from natural sand to create a textured and tactile quality. while the hard inner shell provides the durability and precision that the technology requires.

to use teno, you just tap the speaker open to stream music directly from your smartphone. to adjust the volume, you can slide your finger up and down the side of the bowl. to adjust the brightness of the light, you can tap the center top surface to activate the dimmer. and to answer a call, simply touch the top surface closer to the edge.

teno is compact enough to hold in the palm of your hands and is equipped with a powerful 45mm full-range driver to deliver deep bass and crystal-clear treble. it also offers discreet magnetic charging.

designed to connect with yourself and your environment, lumio considers teno a modern interpretation of a sound bowl. unlike standard speakers, the soft light of teno offers a calming atmosphere, and its touch-activation provides an intuitive design. to find out more, you can check out the kickstarter campaign here.
