known for their delicate and intricate work with timber, tesler + mendelovitch has created a 3D wooden textile that can be used across a wide range of applications. taking inspiration from natural fibers and geometric structures, the tel-aviv based studio (made up of orli tesler and itamar mendelovitch) has embarked on a research project to create an innovative and sustainable design solution for interiors. beginning with typically rigid planks of timber, the duo has transformed the medium into a bendable and sculptural material.

after more than 10 years of research and development, the final product by tesler + mendelovitch employs diagonal cross-hatching on the surface to allow the naturally stiff material to move and bend. available in a range of flexibilities, the smaller the hatch, the more flexible the medium becomes. the project has also been designed to be customized and adapted according to the differing needs of clients, facilitating a variety of applications.

when applied to interior wall panels, the textile can be shaped into organic, flowing curves, transforming typically flat surfaces and creating an intriguing visual character. additionally, the duo also envision the bendable wood to be used to form stand-alone sculptures, architectural structures, furniture, clothing and accessories, acoustic paneling, ceilings and flooring.
