chilean-based the andes house has sent us images of their latest tableware and lighting projects on show during milan design week 2012 at salone satelite,  a program of the salone del mobile which showcases the work of young up and coming designers. ‘las doce’ is a line of household utilitarian dinnerware products have been designed and developed from an old mapuche technique. the object is worked like a sculpture and made functional through industrial methods. from a single piece of wood the artisan carves and sculpts the shape where the remaining interior is emptied using a commercial lathe. the compilation comes in a variety of wares ranging from plates, chargers, bowls and mugs.

the andes house   chilean design at salone satellite 2012 ‘collection’ by the andes house

collection’ is a project where the designs for the product line were created together by artisans and community members of chimbarongo in the VI region of chile. the lamps are made from mimbre which is a plant fibre very similar to wicker, that is obtained from the salix plant. when it is cut into longitudinal strips and woven together the material becomes strong and flexible allowing the user to develop numerous shapes and creative forms. the team used traditional techniques such as dying to create the individual lights.
