tobias tøstesen: ethical kitchen project

by working on creating a food service facility with a focus on the way users perceive sustainability, copenhagen-based designer tobias tøstesen has developed ‘ethical kitchen project’ as a response to the workings of using raw materials and local ingredients. the project tells a story of how natural artifacts and their lifecycles can influence new ways of building relationships between people during the cooking and creation process.

‘sustainability is for me, not necessarily the color blue or the sound of an electric car, but the color of the soil under my nails when cleaning potatoes, or the smell of freshly cut parsnips on my newly sanded table countertop’.

manufactured using north german FSC-certified ash, the module implements a terrazzo-top from remaining ceramic sink scraps from eco by constantino. by designing it without screws or brackets, the system becomes portable and easy to disassemble when moving or at the end of its life cycle.

  • poetic

    francesca tosin fraintesa says:
  • I like the “worbench” sort of aesthetic here, but man, whatalotta b.s.

    dbkii says:
  • I have often said some singer should be heard but not seen. In the case of designers of objects perhaps their designs should be seen but their descriptions not heard. It’s a nice design and I love natural materials, but this rhetoric needs shaking out.

    IDEAMAN says:
  • I agree with Francesca is simply poetic

    nodus says:
  • When first I read and studied the presentation content, I thought how much better this would have succeeded without the embarrassing verbiage, then I got to the comments of dbkii and IDEAMAN…OK, OK…you get the point.

    Chaszr says:
  • love it

    -agreed its very poetic 🙂

    ally says:
  • Yes, the description is a bit of BS. But I’ve head A LOT worse. And at least this BS actually makes sense.

    rj says:
  • But it is a beautiful bench nonehteless.
