showcasing at this year’s tokyo designers week is tokujin yoshioka‘s ‘x-ray’, a mobile phone proposal which we covered earlier this month. made in collaboration with japanese product manufacturer KDDI iida, the design renders the phone transparent with no visible ornamentation save for the circuitry and wiring which is necessary for the product’s operation. available in three skin colours, the flip-phone is a result of what the japanese designer describes as, ‘designing from the inside.’

to highlight the transparent nature of the phone, the installation space is fittingly dark with a single wall light source, like an x-ray tablet. by illuminating the products in such a way, the skeletal elements of the phone, which would not be as discernible in daylight, comes alive.
