torafu architects responded to Hermès annual 2016 theme ‘nature at full gallop’ by designing an enlarged microscopic window display across 22 stores in japan.

in regards to how we view our existing landscape, what we normally see as “nature’ is in fact merely one small part; the naked human eye cannot discern the rest of the world that endlessly expands before it. with this view in mind the studio attempted to present a new perspective towards the environment which is partly concealed from us.

torafu used an arrangement of PVC pipes to form a complex structure that mimics enlarged micro cell patterns found in various plants. Hermès’ accessories including scarves, bags and belts are balanced on these protruding tubes, forming a carefully executed installation. behind the artwork, color gradations akin to chemicals used in experiments, are sprayed upon the background in subtle pastel tones. display cabinets within the interior follow a similar formation, with wallets, watches and handkerchiefs placed on transparent bubble-like holders.
