TP is a refillable ballpen wrapped in an all-metal triangle body that revolutionizes the way you write. launched two years ago, TP² series by yuan design studio — that was awarded the iF design award 2021— includes an aluminum ballpen and a mechanical pencil; T for triangle and P for pen, this easily-switched instrument re-defines the sketch tool.

 

geometry and symmetry were the key elements of the design. the tool owns an irregular design composed of a ‘trixagonal’— a combination of triangle and hexagon — tube that wraps around the body. ‘the avant-garde trixagonal cap is a visual pleasure, at the same time gives you a new perspective to feel connected to your heart while your ideas flow through your veins down to the tip of the ballpen.’TP refillable ballpen and ruler re-defines the sketch toolall images courtesy of ken lam

 

 

TP is a two-way-grip tool

 

every part of TP is machined from a solid block of aluminum, a high strength, durable, lightweight, and good corrosion resistance metal. its functional cap provides dual-scale measurement, while the tool works as a normal ruler and two-way-grip of the pen: one can hold it without the cap – an 8.85mm diameter barrel that is smooth and light, or with the cap on. ‘the triangular cap simulates the pencil grip that we used in childhood, reducing writing fatigue and enabling users to write easier.’ 

 

 

furthermore, TP comes anodized in three earthy colors: matte-black, sand, and deep-green, with light grey contrasting laser engraving graduations. the neutral color palettes bring a sense of comfort and calm, giving a soothing and relaxing vibe, reminding users that taking a break regularly is essential.  the pen comes with a triangle stand machined from the same aluminum as the pen; this 10-degree tilted stand brings a floating illusion and interesting imbalances.  to find out more, you can check out the kickstarter campaign here.
