craig heartman and brian lee, partners at skidmore, owings and merril, have proposed designs for new, live display systems of travel information at the transbay transit center and tower in san francisco. one proposal (main and bottom left images) displays the transit schedule and arrival/departure times in a graphical manner to allow more immediate understanding of whether a train or bus is on time and when it will depart. their positions and times to departure are indicated by their distance from the outside edge of the building. a ‘transit system’ (bottom right) was also presented that maps all public transport and displays delays and the resultant knock-on effect throughout an entire journey to allow passengers to choose the best route and mode of transport.
