an inventive voyage: the ulysse nardin marine mega yacht timepiece

since 1846, ulysse nardin has created timepieces with a passion for all things nautical. their ‘marine mega yacht’ design, debuting at the 2019 miami yacht show, takes their customers on an even more inventive and elegant voyage of watchmaking. as the name suggests, it is dedicated to the owners of sailboats and luxury cruisers, and, just like their vessels, pairs technical versatility and beauty with the raw emotion of the ocean wave.

the 44mm diameter watch provides technical solutions for sailors’ necessities in an avant-garde design where all details reference those of vessels. at the top of the face, the bows of a luxury liner surface from a pool of white gold and cuts through a sea of ‘grand feu’ enamel. a propeller, directly below this, houses the flying tourbillon to deliver perfect timing. on the right, an anchor displays the optimal choice for anchorage points when mooring.

on the left of the ulysse nardin ‘marine mega yacht’, the watch features a three-dimensional display of the phases of the moon and the height of tides in relation to a specific location, which can be adjusted using the crown. it’s lunar surface is reminiscent of that of our moon thanks to ultra-precise engraving. one side of the sphere is treated in blue PVD to represent the new moon whilst the other is treated with rhodiumized to simulate the effect of the sun.

the timepiece’s art form is highlighted by the fashioned anchor and its chain, which only move in response to the crown. overall, it comprises 504 components and was constructed by the very best watchmakers at the brand, alongside christophe claret manufacture. matching its intricate beauty, the special edition is limited to only 30 pieces.
