the university of arts london reveals the stars of the next generation in ‘UAL now’, a new initiative that selects young creatives and propels them into the global spotlight. selected from the university’s graduating class, this year’s selected designers touch on issues of global cultural heritage, environmental thinking, healthcare, and contemporary urban living. those included in ‘UAL now’ 2015 include: abay zhumagulov, ana jimenez palomar, ben perkins, brook sigal, charlotte garnett, evangeline pesigan, geraldine biard, joana cartaxo, kuniko maeda, laura shrimpton, louise tucker, marta bordes, olivia aspinall, wataru goto, yizhu fang, and yuta segawa.

charlotte garnet’s ‘cure for the itch’ collection looks for solutions to anxiety driven habitual behaviors

joana cartaxo’s ‘singularis’ is a micro-dining concept that functions as a useable dining set and artistic sculpture

kuniko maeda creates wearable-forms with materials such as plastic, fabric and paper 

laura shrimpton creates sculptural geometric objects, products and installations for various purposes

brook sigal’s ‘sylva’ uses ecological sense to shift the perception of material value in water drinking

marta bordes ‘elastic lights’ is a series of ceramic lamps which expose their function as a colorful visual feature

olivia aspinall’s materials-led designs offer luxury surfaces for the interiors market

ben perkins’ wooden furniture designs can pack flat, space saving through traditional craft techniques

wataru goto designs and makes contemporary chairs that try to connect modern humanity into design

yuta segawa’s ‘miniature pots’ is a vast array of ceramic vessels that trace his practice and process
