as part of the VDW happenings, the city’s museum of applied arts (MAK) hosts ‘back in 5 minutes’, a contemporary design intervention which sees local creative robert stadler contrasting the bourgeois idyll of MAK’s opulant interior, with an interplay of soft surfaces and patterns that correspond to the empire and biedermeier eras of the cultural institution’s architecture, through materials and decorations.

vienna design week 2014 designboom

vienna design week is austria’s largest design festival, with a variety of locations and events positioned across the city. the programm transforms the austrian capital and showcases how design shapes our material culture, our every-day life and our world as consumers. simultaneously, it influences our lifestyles and most fundamentally our aesthetic senses and judgements.

from september 26th to october 5th, 2014, vienna design week once more presents national and international formations in product, furniture and industrial design. another core element of the festival concept is to demonstrate experimental approaches and development and production processes, and to motivate experimental works in situ.
