vincent leroy envisions 3D cloud sensors in the canary islands

 

vincent leroy has introduced his latest project taking shape as a new three-dimensional kind of cloud sensor. the french artist has reinterpreted the well-known flat device in an extruded structure that can simply and effectively capture fine droplets from dry country clouds. in leroy’s visual representations, the sensors can be seen settling on top of mirador de ermita de las nieves in lanzarote, blending with the misty surroundings and seemingly floating above the ground.

creating a water point in the desert

 

the shapes of these new cloud sensors are developed in three dimensions and deploy a larger contact surface, thus achieving greater efficiency. what’s more, the imagined structure is structurally stabler, while it can also be fixed to the ground more easily. with the help of this installation, the fine droplets are collected in the three-dimensional yarns and gently flow down the structure to end up in a conduit.

 

vincent leroy chose the mirador peaks of ermita de las nieves in lanzarote to illustrate this first idea. although the del palomo valley below was green a few years ago, it is completely dry today. the clouds pass but there is too little rain, forcing the farmers to leave the area. with this in mind, the artist envisioned the sensor structures as a means to create a water point. leroy also imagines being able to create umbrellas for hot countries with these new forms.
