in december 2020, pharell announced a new podcast company called OTHERtoneMedia. the new podcast is a spin-off of the artist’s beats 1 radio show, co-hosted with scott veneer. the show, which features interviews with people from the music, tech, business, art, and fashion communities, aims to offer ‘a glimpse into the minds of our culture’s unicorns — how they think about life, art, and everything in between.’

for its first 2021 podcast, OTHERtoneMedia sat down with louis vuitton’s creative director virgil abloh, and renowned contemporary artist KAWS, where they shared insights into their relationship, the importance of their legacy and what it means to turn forty.

‘to me, there’s one level of the work that’s designing at louis, but my real job is to make sure that there’s, like, six young Black kids that take my job after me,’ abloh commented on his purpose. ‘for me, it’s not just to run around and make cool stuff. none of that really feeds my ego. what I would be more impressed by is the next candidate for a house that gets hired as the next head designer has this, like, multidisciplinary background and comes from, you know, not a fashion school and thinks in a different dimension and him get a shot.’
