José Bermúdez fuses contemporary and brutalist design

Mexican designer José Bermúdez has melded the raw integrity of volcanic stone with the subtle proportions of architectural geometry to create the Fusina Firepit. Shaped from a single lava stone and carved by hand, the sculptural indoor fire pit is elemental and organic in form, inspired by fire, earth, and nature. Its design and craftsmanship together pay homage to the essential visual language of Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa, weaving simplicity, overlapping forms, and brutalist architecture into its very essence. The fire is ignited by bioethanol by the user, with the pit’s distinct U shape allowing optimal burning time.

With its intriguing organic shape, Fusina Firepit finds a home within any desired space, infusing warmth with its intuitive curves and architectural brutalism. Designer José Bermúdez utilizes ancestral Mexican craftsmanship and contemporary design values to create a functional work of art that beckons desire and contemplation. Working with manually-poured bioethanol, the fire pit invites a personal and ritualistic connection between object and user. Its medium U shape allows bioethanol to last over an hour in use without burning or transferring excess heat to other components.
