lithuanian architect vytautas puzeras has created a clean, transparent and minimalist dome called ‘oasis’ for those who like to spend their time in nature. the main idea for this portable shelter comes from the designer’s need to find a place where he could feel comfortable with a close person or simply with himself; a safe spot where nothing could disturb his thoughts and feelings.

the transparent bubble-like structure gives shelter without obstructing the view

time inside ‘oasis’ magically stops or rather simply disappears. this special feeling is due to the curved arches that act as the structure of the dome. ‘they have a very positive affection. it feels as if the arches wrap you up but at the same time they don’t obstruct the view of the surroundings. the nature and starry sky can be seen in whole 360 degrees,’ vytautas says. ‘a very specific sense occurs while being inside of it – I am. here and now. there’s no need to rush, you just fix the present moment and marvel at it. as if you were a drop of water in the nature.’

the double bottom of the ‘oasis’ can be lifted, creating space for storage

only one experimental model of ‘oasis’ has been produced, whose stability and resistance in different circumstances is tested by vytautas himself. the ‘oasis’ dome can be built in half a day and the whole structure fits in a small trailer or a bigger car making it easy to transport. the arches are made from a humidity-resistant segmented veneer which is then covered with a special glass-clear canopy. the double bottom floor of ‘oasis’ can be lifted and is specially designed for storage. as for capacity, six people can comfortably fit inside the dome.

according to vytautas, ‘oasis’ was projected for those who like spending their time outdoors and enjoy doing it in an aesthetically pleasing way. ‘it’s for city people who love nature, travelers, lovers of sport activities, a solution for honey moon or just having good time next to the lake,’ names the creator. ‘it’s like a very own and private space.’
