sequence of still shots demonstrating the inflation and deflation of the ‘balloon dress’ W hotels designer of the future: tom foulsham at designmiami/ basel 2012

tom foulsham is one of this year’s W hotels designers of the future, a title which acknowledges three young emerging creatives working in different mediums, providing them the venue of design miami basel to present a newly commissioned work to the greater public.

the british designer developed ‘go-round’ for his presentation at this year’s fair. the interactive installation is an industrial device that balances on a single sharpened point – delicately grounded, nothing fixed. ‘go-round’ makes visible, the forces of energy which we typically do not see. different contraptions and everyday devices including hair dryers, fans, the simple act of exhaling and balloon dresses are to be used in order that individuals may propel themselves in a circle.
