AXOR, the designer brand of hansgrohe, focuses on re-imagining the bathroom as a living space. a recent collaboration with nendo has seen the design of the ‘water dream’, a fusion of both a lamp and a shower, yet instead of adding a light to a shower head — which might be expected — nendo has added shower mechanisms directly to a lamp. the resulting design serves as a transparent luminaire when the shower is not in use, allowing it to visually disappear into its surroundings. when used as a shower, a cool glow spills out from within the water jets, turning the entire unit into a radiant object. designed in variations — pendant, wall-mounted and floor lamp — each item, in their own way, breaks the traditional limits of showering; the floor lamp is not confined to the bathroom or shower booth, but can be moved around in the house, bringing showering to new spaces of the home, or taken outside onto a terrace or balcony.

in june, designboom was on hand at an exclusive preview where the japanese designer’s concept was revealed. nendo explained the starting points for his idea and the evolution of his ‘AXOR waterdream’. you can read about the genesis of the project, here. now, nendo presents ‘water dream’ at the maison & objet asia 2014 in singapore from march 10th – 13th.
