WHAT DESIGN CAN DO! returns for its fourth edition, bringing together creative professionals working in a wide range of areas – from technology to art to architecture and science – encouraging discussion and facilitating collaboration between the various disciplines that they represent.

 

once again, designboom is the official online media partner of the international event that aims at investigating the power of design as an agent for social renewal, calling on designers to take responsibility and how explore how their work can impact the wider society on a greater social, economic and sustainable level.

the two-day conference (thursday, may 8th – friday, may 9th, 2014) is being hosted at the historical stadsschouwburg theatre in amsterdam, where speakers from around the globe will present alternative strategies for the future related to their areas of expertise.

 

this year’s delegates include (subject to change): paola antonelli, senior curator of architecture and design of MoMA; rachel armstrong, architect and designer; jet bussemaker, dutch minister for education, culture and science; nelly ben hayoun, experience designer; michael bierut, partner at pentagram (see designboom’s interview with michael bierut here) teddy cruz, architect and founder of estudio teddy cruz; timo de rijk, professor of design, culture and society, joint chair at delft university of technology and leiden university; alexandra daisy ginsberg, designer; shaolan hsueh, graphic designer and creator of chineasy; rogier klomp & shuchen tan, filmmakers; bernard lahousse, food designer; laduma ngxokolo, fashion designer; carlo ratti, director at MIT senseable city lab; paul smith, fashion designer; richard the, designer; willy wong, chief creative officer at NYC & company (see designboom’s interview with willy wong here).
