wiktoria szawiel seals immaterial facets of landscapes within objects
once moving to western europe, wiktoria szawiel yearned for the melancholic eastern landscapes of poland, belarus and russia where she had been raised. she channeled this longing into a series of experimental domestic wares and furniture, trying to capture the memories and immaterial qualities of the places where she grew up, within physical objects.

‘landscape within’ includes a chair, side table, stools and tableware
‘landscape within’ is szawiel’s endeavour to recreate the space, light and atmosphere of her past. each design seals in the essence of her early impressions of color, shape, technique and texture; all linking back to the scenic images embedded in her recollections of the nature that surrounded her in her early years. stripped down wood is arranged in patterns, sealed within resin and plaster to create functional, recollections of a bygone era.
