maison et objet: founded in 2013 by maurizio and christian mussati, wonderglass blends traditional craftsmanship with technology by constantly developing contemporary designs, collaborating with architects, artists and other creatives. for the spring 2017 edition of maison et objet, they have presented ‘rise and drift’, an installation by london-based design brand tangent established by hideki yoshimoto. comprised of three different explorations, the installation focuses on the organic shapes of water bubbles and the refraction of light, as well as the complex way light transmits and reflects inside different materials.

at their stand in the maison et objet fair, wonderglass welcomes the visitors with five resin cubes with crystal bubbles trapped inside, capturing a dynamic movement that is reminiscent of air rising through the water, hinting life. LED lights placed underneath are transmitted and reflected in a complex way inside the material, resulting in a mesmerizing visual effect. four glass panels follow the cubes, exploring the idea of tainted glass and its liquid and solid expressions. the different fixtures can be used as space dividers, lights, or chandeliers, casting shadows with light and sunlight. backed by long white curtains, the suspended pieces propose unique ideas while bringing the latest technologies into glass-making.

the stand also presents the 2017 edition of ‘luma’, a sculptural composition of tubular segments by zaha hadid which subtly diffuse light through organic shapes which effortlessly celebrate the unrivaled logic and beauty found in nature. all the individual segments and every piece have been handblown in murano. each edition follows an ongoing liaison with the architect’s team, resulting in technical superiority as well as a more refined shape which in turn, throws a softer glow. ‘luma’ is now available to specify for both commercial and domestic markets.
