with the turn of the new year comes the latest world design rankings. it reveals the countries with the most designers who have won A’ design award and competition annually. this is all in the name of further promoting a global design culture through exhibiting and supporting good design. for the first time, china now tops the rankings in 2019 with 67 platinum design awards won. they replace the USA – now in second place – with japan, italy, great britain, hong kong, turkey, taiwan, germany and australia completing the top 10. overall, the table remains similar to 2018 but now includes six new countries: macedonia, the maldives, lao, swaziland, kenya and armenia.

the world design rankings list countries by the amount of platinum awards won at the A’ design award and competition. gold follows next, then silver, bronze and, finally, iron to determine standings. the list also includes a ‘design business insights’ section, which ranks nations based on their success in specific yet diverse categories. this enables industry members to understand ‘design strengths’ such as finding out which country is best for furniture, architecture, lighting and more.
