industrial designer cheng-yo lee envisions the future of mobility with his creation ‘YATAI-E. the project envisions a future of a food truck journey powered by the autonomous vehicle. by having automation on as many facilities as possible, the vendors in YATAI-Ecan simply enjoy the ride and the food vending without putting too much effort into the long-distancing mobility. the devotion to automation also shows in the payment process. the street food experience has always been bothered by the hassle of waiting and paying. by having contactless payment integrated, the food truck can finally benefit from the digitalized and automated system we already enjoy in the many physical shops and online retails.

the front capsule is detachable and lightweight

YATAI-E by cheng-yo lee focuses purely on delivering delicacies between the passionate vendor and the customer who is fond of food. the other big focus on this design concept of the road trip of the food truck. the front ‘capsule’ can be detached from the kitchen and driven on its own, which makes the food truck trip being not just vending between different spots, but also a lightweight autonomous road trip along the way. as the world is gradually moving toward the next automotive generation, YATAI-E shows that this charming symbol of our urban life can also take part in the evolution smoothly.
