yinka ilori upcycles vintage furniture into installation at london design festival

during london design festival 2016, local-based designer yinka ilori will transform the clerkenwell’s gallery basement with an immersive installation called ‘a swimming pool of dreams’ during the ‘designed undefined at clerkenwell london’ exhibition. the intervention comprises six chairs that were made from different found materials, brought together to create a colorful piece that sits between art and design, contemporary aesthetics and ancient oral tradition.

known for his bold and playful style, yinka ilori‘s  chair collection references the colors and patterns of african textiles and tales from nigerian parables. each one of them represents a distinct faith-based narrative that goes back into yinka’s childhood memories that evoke strong emotional responses. his work portrays positivity while taking into consideration actual aspects like sustainability through the reuse of discharged materials. each piece allows for long and fun contemplation, taking the viewer to different references and playful places.
