zaha hadid's marble citco collection presented at salone del mobile

at this year’s salone del mobile in milan, celebrated architect zaha hadid has presented a marble collection for italian stone brand citco. comprising vases and tables, the various products demonstrate hadid’s control of bold, fluid forms, and continue her longstanding collaboration with the company.

a set of five, the ‘tau vases’ for citco appear organic; emerging as a series of intricately rendered pleats designed to express the formal complexity of natural growth systems. appearing as delicate as flower petals, the fragile aesthetic of the vases belies the solidity of their material. four different marble types have been used to complete the family, ranging from the dark ‘bardiglio nuvolato’ to the pale ‘statuario’ finish.

the tallest vase stands at a height of 74 centimeters

created in five sizes and in four different marbles, the ‘quad table’ is an exercise in precision. fanning out from a central void, the marble tabletop flows to its points of grounding in each corner, gathering into subtle folds as it progresses from the horizontal to vertical; its fluid surfaces appear taut and pleated, denying the inherent unmalleability of its structure.
