concrete LCDA commissioned matali crasset to develop a series of objects and furniture as an extension of her previous table, lighting and shelving she created for the company in 2012 (see designboom’s coverage of the ‘concrete collection’ here). the new designs which include ‘multifacet’ and ‘one piece’, blend polished concrete with various metals (bright pewter, warm brass and soft copper) and are being presented at maison & objet 2015 in paris from january 23rd-27th, 2015.

‘multifacet’ is a series of four small faceted concrete areas. at their core they are the same concrete module, but depending on their arrangement with additional metal components, and the way in which they are organized, project different functions: a candle holder, champagne bucket, single-flower vase and tablet / shelf.  the contrasting materials of ‘multifacet’ express our desire for durable beauty, and have been produced in collaboration with metal smiths orfèvrerie d’anjou.

‘one piece’ is a monolithic structure which combines the expertise of concrete LCDA, and the tapestry and leather craftsmenship of domeau & pérès. the result is a counter of sorts, which seeks to break way from the standard codes of rigidness. the work surface is made from a 20″-thick single piece of fiber-reinforced concrete produced in a single cast — a technically difficult feat. in order to achieve its hefty form, 360 degree molding was required, in combination with a counter mold in order to hold the concrete in place. in total 300 kg of concrete, and 18 hours of casting, were employed in order to realize it. the underside of the faceted structure is completed with genuine leather, fitted visibly by domeau & pérès.
