the centre pompidou, wrapped

in scaffolding, that is. .The metal veil, which will remain in place until the 2030 renovation completion date, does feel very much aligned with the iconic building’s original architecture. We still managed to get a glimpse of the colorful rear facade before its full steel makeover though – just head to rue Simon le Franc 💙💛💚❤️

inside we are ona’s boat-inspired dining installation in paris

We step inside Dalad’s, a temporary restaurant by We Are Ona in Paris, where Thai artist Rirkrit Tiravanija has designed two monumental stainless steel tables inspired by traditional fishing boats. Created with chef Dalad Kambhu and Luca Pronzato for Art Basel Paris 2026, the installation brings cooking and communal dining together, transforming a shared meal into a collective artistic experience.

The long read: thai fishing boats inspire Rirkrit Tiravanija’s dining installation for We Are Ona in Paris

We are two quite young institutions, both over a decade old, and we share a common purpose to present a deeper understanding of 20th- and 21st-century art. As we build an expansion that will welcome even more visitors to The Broad in L.A. in 2028, this extensive exhibition in Paris allows us to share the founding vision of Eli and Edythe Broad to reach as wide an audience as possible, and highlights their dedication to artists as vital to understanding complexity in our world.

kerry james marshall ‘wake’ at musée d’art moderne de paris

Presented at the 2003 Venice Biennale, Wake centers on a black ship on a pedestal that stands for a black sea. While recalling the journey made by enslaved Africans, the work also suggests the growing power of Black cultural expression.  Each time it is displayed, Marshall adds more medallions, representing the proliferating achievements of African Americans.

On the walls, plates commemorate the first cargo of twenty enslaved Africans brought to North America in 1619, as well as William Tucker, the first child of African origin born in North America (English colonies) around 1624. Marshall represents Tucker with a photograph of himself as a teenager.

design miami has clearly outgrown its paris location

In fairness to the building, the Hôtel de Maisons is a wonderful place to hold a design fair and I understand the temptation entirely. A private mansion in Saint-Germain that used to be Karl Lagerfeld’s house sells itself, and nobody at Design Miami needed to think twice. The interiors are a masterpiece in their own right and would be worth the trip with nothing in them at all.

But on the first day the house was so full that moving through it felt like queuing at an airport, except that in an airport queue everyone is at least going the same way. Here, everybody was in a desperate hurry and in no hurry whatsoever at once. The passages between the stands are narrow enough that when two people stop to greet each other, and they stop constantly, you do not go around them. You stand there, close enough to be part of the conversation, waiting for the person in front of you to move, and then the river carries you on to the next one.

A fair can count how many people came through the door, or it can count how many of them were actually able to stand still long enough to enjoy looking at something, and I suppose the second one should matter more to the galleries that are paying to be there. Most of what I saw, I saw over a shoulder while moving, and the only visitors with an unobstructed view were the ones pointing the camera at themselves.

None of which reads to me as a failure. Outgrowing your venue is the best problem an organization can have, and Paris has very clearly turned up. But what does a visitor actually take away from an afternoon in which both the venue and the collectible design inside it end up disappearing behind the noise, the blocked passages and somebody else’s reunion?
