anamorphosis

anamorphosis by lachaert sofie from belgium

designer's own words:

we made a bottle in silver which can be used for liquids and at the same time as a cylindric mirror
polished silver has the ultimate quality to be an excellent mirror which was used by the ancient greeks and romans.
when the bottle is placed on a distorted image (hand-painted watercolor painting) it shows the image of very precious protected birds (shown on "precious" metal express our feelings about this concern )
this "technique" is called anamorphosis, originally from the 16th century.
a cylindrical mirror is placed on the drawing or painting to transform a flat distorted image into a three dimensional picture that can be viewed from many angles.
the deformed image is painted on a plane surface surrounding the mirror.
by looking uniquely into the mirror, the image appears undeformed.
