designer's own words:

Apartment 801 in Mumbai is a 900 sq.ft. home for a young couple with a naughty and hyperactive 2 year old boy. The planning of the apartment has been kept simple with a stylish and dramatic interior with a sophisticated and experimental feel.
One enters into the living room at one end via a small lobby area which opens into the living room which further widens into dining area. This creates a sense of a very large single space, which is very rarely seen in the city of Mumbai.
The living space has been separated from the kitchen with the use of curved vertical wooden separators, allowing glimpses of the kitchen and yet maintaining privacy. The curved lines are carried forward in the entire room, be it the TV unit or the bar. The TV wall is highlighted by an undulating surface made of plaster of paris and flexi plywood., painted white. The play of light and the use of levels gives the eye a sense of rippling effect in the wall. The levels have been used as display shelves for the Buddhist statues and artefacts, creating a Zen- effect in the room. The splashes of colour are limited to an orange here and there, creating a play in the whiteness of the room. The bar unit is again a series of curvilinear lines which house and highlight bottles on diplay. The splash of metallic copper base gives an effective base to the displays. The high dining table is offset by the sticker clock in the background. The bar unit has a small tunnel experience created for the playful child to escape into his room creating a child zone. The library unit in the deck area has a cozy seating area with cushions, right besides the window.
The son's playroom has been developed into a series of experimental experiences for the child and his friends. The room has been made bright and fun by using the forest theme, complete with animals, pond and a tree. The highlight in the room is the tree house created at a higher level for the child to climb into. The nature theme is continued in the cupboard unit with the contrast combination of green, blue and brown laminates. This helps in creating an aura of energy and brightness in the room. The railing has a set of coloured rings which allow the mother to teach her child numbers and colours.
The master bedroom is a haven of peace and quiet with its white painted cupboards and metallic yet soft mauve wall. The white is broken with stainless steel bands at the bottom and top. The false ceiling is a simple band of light suspended from the ceiling. This room of rest is meant to be peaceful in the moments of madness that is the outside world.
