designer's own words:

The urban attitude to use land as a resource and the notion to sanitize every aspect THREATENS the rich architectural heritage of Christian monuments in the city of Mumbai. These threats are from within the community owing to the lack of awareness.
This INTERACTIVE MUSEUM intends to create awareness within a confined space of an apse, where artifacts are displayed so as to provide a counterpoint to the whole collection. The design intervention is a juxtaposition of a plane between concentric walls, which is articulated to divide space, segregate the collection, house artificial diffused light and choreograph the movement of the visitor. Midway through the collection is a tiered seating for Audio visual presentations to educate the visitors.
This initiative was conceptualized by few members of the community. It took several years to CONVINCE the authorities. Only after its completion did people ACKNOWLEDGE the importance of the initiative. The visitor thus appreciates each artifact and leaves ENLIGHTENED, to become a guardian to protect the tangible and intangible HERITAGE of the diocese.

At the outset the artifacts are unconventionally displayed to engage the visitor.archdiocesan heritage museum goregaon mumbaiThe timeline captures the national and local history of the church superimposed against significant international events. archdiocesan heritage museum goregaon mumbaiA 16th century magnificently carved wooden torso of Christ is dramatically juxtaposed against the timeline wall.archdiocesan heritage museum goregaon mumbaiTiered audio-visual space to educate the visitors is encountered midway. archdiocesan heritage museum goregaon mumbaiThe architectural element that divides space, segregates the collection, houses artificial diffused light and choreographs the movement of the visitor.archdiocesan heritage museum goregaon mumbaiIsometric view
