The Centrepiece is a symbol of the unknown that triggers our curiosity and draws us in. The thin light escaping the piece shapes the surroundings leaving what’s in darkness to ones imagination.
Inspired by Lexus’ use of cutting edge LED technology in their vehicles, we use newly developed high-density LED arrays mounted on a brass ring that project a continuous line of light framing its surroundings. We propose a custom acrylic lens with two biconvex lenses that allow light to enter and exit parallel to one another, thus projecting a thin strip.
A stainless steel sliding mechanism is used to smoothly shift two spun brass shields from a parallel position to 50mm crescent position transforming the light to reveal the high polished brass surface of the interior. Basalt is used for the base, which holds lithium-ion polymer battery allowing for up to 16 hours of use per charge.
