communicaTABLE

What´s the original signification of kitchen? Who uses the kitchen? Why? When? How will the near future kitchen look like? Will there soon still be a place in our living space where meals will be prepared, or will man ingest all important nutriments by pills or infusions? Which needs do we have? Is eating a basic need and which significance has cooking? Is cooking fun or just a means to an end? How does a kitchen shall look like to stimulate communication? How do I create space and scope for development? Which work item is unnecessary? How do I integrate children into daily kitchen work without danger? How do I create restaurant ambience in a home - keyword: “show cooking”? How do I bring them together? Anything on one table?

The concept combines the positions eating area, preparation area and cooking place and serves an integration of the relatives, which are (not) engaged in preparing the meal, in a new way. Additionally this living element supports communication and social life within the family. Social events like birthdays or meeting friends can be reveled at one place in one room without separating the group.

Basic element is a height adjustable steel tube frame (working and sitting height) on which a two-piece work top resp. table top is assembled. The face can be slid on to both sides and will release additional space with boilerplates. The bench, which provides additional storage space, can be disconnected from the frame when descended. Via lifting the front the tier can be moved through the room individually due to the two rolls inside the bench.

Inside the additional work surface (“bar”), which is annexed aside the living element, several sensors as well as control elements are contained. They overtake certain protection- and switching functions (overboiling water, light, drain etc.).
