Contact Cane

Contact Cane by shoji asaba from japan

designer's own words:

Looking at the “white cane” used by visually impaired people, we came up with a system that allows people to experience a space and the world through the sense of touch instead of sight.

This system allows users to feel an invisible, “virtual barrier”.
The sensor at the tip of the cane detects the previously set locations, and gives the user’s hand a bumping sensation, allowing the user to feel as if there was a wall in that spot.

People that take hold of the cane will feel an invisible world spread out before them.
That is a world that both able-bodied people and visually impaired people can “see” in the same way.
