Cotton Hill

Cotton Hill by Sergii from italy

designer's own words:

The most breathtaking places that exist are beautiful the way they are. Coexisting with them is a matter of sustaining a fragile balance of human’s essential needs and the rhythms of nature.
Cotton Hill is a subtle gesture of respect to the spectacular, peaceful landscape of Aomori, and to the apple production culture of Hirosaki. It is an artificial landmark and a starting point of the journey for any person to explore a place that harvests 50% of Japanese apples.

An installation is a light transparent metal frame, covered with oversized textile membranes that are to be filled with soil and tightened with rope, acting as planters for local apple tree varieties. All together those cells of a double curved roof covered with plants, should harmonize with the slopes of mount Iwaki, dissolving in the boundless apple fields. At the same moment a shelter will create a green social island of attraction and communication for visitors and habitants, highlighting it on the landscape, from the human’s point of view. Because in the end it’s not only about apples, it’s about people.
