dio 21 by christoph beyer from germany

designer's own words:

shelter in a cart
= agile home

- regardless whether on purpose or as victims of circumstances homeless people
- handle life in an unpredictable ascetic way
- are confronted by inhospitable weather
- you can see homesless people as a symptom of an illness of the society
but also as an established fact - dio 21 deals with this fact

- dio 21 = - 21th century version of diogenes’ barrel
- as useful as a landrover on safari
- dio 21 = vehicle ( rainwater barrel, aluminium pipe frame, waterproof plywood )
- transport
- seat
- bed
+ waterproof tarpaulin
- slides by snaplinks along the ridge
in order to cover parts of the vehicle
- if it covers the whole lengths including
opend out bed it gets a bivouac
+ bungee cords to secure bags inside and outside the railing

- tabula rasa: the even and ( apart from dio 21 letters that lead to story behind
the barrel and reflecting safety dots ) bare surface of the barrel
leaves space for individual designs ( spraypaint, stickers, etc.)
to say: “ for now this is my home! ”
- costs - barell and tyres are readymades
- frame, plywoodparts, tarpaulin need to be made
= sponsorship as concept ( single person sponsors a vehicle )
