Urban Cycling is a growing trend because of its various benefits: health, ecology, economy and practicity. A movility revolution is going on, car crowded cities and congestion created a new paradigm for urban tranportation . "Dooring " Is one of the most common accidents that cyclist are involved. Cyclist all over the world are getting killed and injured every day by door collisions.
Dooring Prevention System DPS could revolutionize the car safety industry, like the airbag o brake lights did. The project consist on mechanism connecting the door trigger to a light in the back of the car and a sound signal . When the door handle is slightly pulled, the door opening is retarded (estimated 5 seconds) by the system, and the cyclist its warned with a sparkling light and a pitched noise so he can maneuver or press the brakes. Although the system is inspired in cycling accidents it could prevent any tipe of dooring.
We focused more on a system rather than a product, as desingers we believe that design can save lives.
