designer's own words:

Make it and our mind sharper!

The ECO sharpener takes the approach to conserving the environment by extending the sustainability of our everyday use items, and at the same time, raising awareness to the users.

The whole idea is inspired by the pencil sharpener, with the merit of using until the nearly unusable point. Normally, the disposable bamboo/wooden chopsticks are used for one time only; say for 30 minutes or so. By making reference to the pencil sharpener, the item peels off the stained surface and treats for reuse. This serves to retain use for many times, as another way to reduce consumption and disposal.

Ultimately, this is meant to be a transitional environmental device only. By using it the user would notice it is a way of helping the environment, but on the more pessimistic side. It is just like consuming in a more prolonged way, so why not turn back, re-thing and consider a more non-disposable culture. By the time the user is fully aware of the product objective, this item could be transferred to the next user.
