Eight Brazilian Roses and some thorns for Masaoka Shiki: Within the Inner Thorn

Eight Brazilian Roses and some thorns for Masaoka Shiki: Within the Inner Thorn by PaulovonPoser from brazil

designer's own words:

Such as the flower it protects, the thorn pops in our lives in each obstacle and difficulty creating moments of strengthening, loneliness, review and acceptance. Young thorns can be easily taken off. In the afro-Brazilian traditions one should never offer a rose without taking off its thorn. In Topology the French word “épine” is used to designate blocks of stones lifted vertically meaning an Axial and Solar symbolism.

I designed a small architecture by dropping a giant thorn, emptying its interior in order to invert its original purposes. This project intends to create a place of welcome, protection and contemplation in a garden, to be used during a soft spring rain. This “gazebo” is for listening the silence, resting reading and inviting visitors to write poems and haikus in its internal walls. A Crimson space in green lawns or woods.

An interactive sculpture project made of structural concrete, painted in crimson red.
Approximately scale 150 x 300 x 440 cm.
