Fractal Shelf

Fractal Shelf by Hiroyuki from japan

designer's own words:

The state of Japanese forestry triggered starting the project.
Japan has very low consumption rates of thinning materials even though forests are 66% of the country territory.
This is one of the causes that many parts of the tree were not completely utilized. The remaining parts were scattered in the forest.
Therefore, I first made my choice of material, according to restrictions put in place by the foresty commission. I used the narrow branch (100 millimeters in diameter or less) in order to make sure that no part of the tree was wasted.
The most significant feature of Fractal Shelf is designing the base on growth fractal of conifer, for which an form of authentic conifer is used. It can use the materials efficiently by doing so, and balance of all of the form improves. Furthermore, the round base makes the angle of the top boards more flexible.
The structure, which applied providence of nature to let space recur to nature while giving a fresh experience visually and physically as a natural element.
